Coraline is a story about a girl who walks through a secret door to an alternate reality which another mother who has buttons for eyes.  Seemingly this world is much better than the one that Coraline lives in and she becomes tempted.  However not all is what it seems...

The character Wybie is not actually in the book, he was added to the movie so that the 'viewer wouldn't have a girl walking around, occasionally talking to herself'.
